Brief
Custom Android-based software for all-in-one gaming, audio/video entertainment and fan discourse tools on a single platform. Within a start-up environment I worked with executive and engineering team to produce visual concepts, UIUX experiments for user testing and marketing.
-
Designing a seamless user experience for a custom Android-based platform that integrates gaming, audio/video entertainment, and fan engagement tools into a single ecosystem. The challenge involved balancing a visually engaging interface with intuitive navigation, ensuring users could easily transition between diverse entertainment modes.
Key considerations include:
Users should easily browse, preview, and select game or content without confusion of type.
A seamless catalog of games categorized by genre and platform.
An interface that feels influenced by gaming visual cues while not jarring or unfamiliar to a general smartphone UI.
-
Discovery & Research to Prototyping & Design
Research to find meeting points of media where users find that their interests and consumer habits merge.
Define prime examples of entertainment/gaming distribution and community engagement. (e.g. Steam, Reddit etc).
Establish user personas from the media obsessed to the casual user.
Identify overlap of UI and UX normalcies across media type.
Wireframe and design visual and interactive elements. From game and user profiles to community engagement metrics and game marketplace.
Testing & Iteration to Launch
Conduct user testing with a diverse group of users, from gamers to movie buffs, Influencers to causal users.
Gather feedback on ease of use, performance, and media surfacing.
Iterate based on insights, refining UI elements and interaction patterns for launch.
-
The development of a custom Android-based OS successfully bridged the gap between gaming-focused interfaces and familiar smartphone paradigms, creating an intuitive yet immersive user experience. The design process involved extensive collaboration with executives and engineers to refine UI/UX concepts, test usability, and push the boundaries of mobile gaming ecosystems.
While the project was ultimately acquired by Atari and shelved before public release, the work laid the groundwork for future gaming-centric mobile interfaces. The innovative approach to multi-platform entertainment and fan engagement demonstrated the potential for a unified gaming and media experience, positioning the product as a forward-thinking solution in the evolving mobile landscape.
